ANTI-RACISM STATEMENT

The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership (SEAL) is committed to upholding °µÍø½ûÇø's equity, diversity, and inclusion values, and we aim to continue using those values to guide our work through our department-specific anti-racism statement:

At SEAL, we acknowledge that the history of the state of Oregon and the white supremacy that educational institutions have been built on have had a profound impact on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and historically marginalized communities. History continues to affect our students and employees throughout their journey of navigating higher education and ideas of professionalism and leadership.

As a team, we educate ourselves on oppression and privilege that surround our roles within the university and the community. We are committed to creating positive change through resources, opportunities, and programming. We challenge ourselves and our students to welcome dialogue to understand perspectives of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

We require our student organizations to submit and follow an anti-racism plan that highlights their efforts to be anti-racist in their programming, membership, and leadership practices. We provide students with the resources and programs necessary to maintain their anti-racist approach and enhance their global perspective through encouraging culturally responsive programming. In addition, we are committed to disrupting oppressive practices by redefining inclusive and equitable programming and leadership.
