In collaboration with faculty University leaders, we help to formulate academic priorities and policy and to allocate resources to ensure student success, academic innovation, and institutional effectiveness. We support faculty and staff in the design and delivery of strong interdisciplinary co-curricular programs that connect the liberal arts with selected professions in order to educate ethically grounded citizen leaders.
Carol S. Long is Provost and Senior Vice President. As the chief academic officer she helps to coordinate and enhance collaboration among the schools of °µÍø½ûÇø and between student and academic affairs. A Professor of English at Willamette for over 30 years, she also served as department chair, associate dean, and dean in the College of Arts & Sciences before leaving in 2009 to become Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the State University of New York College at Geneseo. She also served as Interim President at Geneseo for two years before returning to Willamette in August of 2016.
Her research and publications are primarily in the areas of twentieth century British and American literature, the rhetoric of science, and academic administration. Her major foci in administration are strategic planning and governance, curriculum, internationalization, and digital learning. She currently serves on the Salem Advisory Committee of the Oregon Symphony and is also a member of the Tokyo University of America Board of Directors.
