Certificate in Law and Government

Drawing on the College of Law's unique connection to state government institutions, the Certificate Program in Law and Government allows students to engage in intensive study of public law. This certificate seeks to help students develop sills for making and influencing public law and policy. The program benefits from its connection to the law school’s Center for Constitutional Government, which provides programming and faculty expertise. See Program Outcomes for details.

Admission to the Program

All students are eligible to apply for the program. Students must submit an online application. In that application, students must attest to their academic good standing (i.e. cumulative GPA above 2.30), and provide a 250-word personal statement explaining why they wish to pursue the certificate. The director of the program reserves the discretion to cap the size of the programs, based on advising capacity and capstone course availability. Please contact the Program Director, Professor Paul Diller, for further information

Professor Paul Diller

"With the state capitol, courts, and agencies like the Oregon department of justice at Willamette’s doorstep, our students enjoy unparalleled opportunities to gain practical experience in government.  Opportunities abound at the local and federal levels as well, with Portland’s federal courthouse just a short distance away."
